My Family Rocks (family program)

With the natural world beginning to slow down in preparation for winter we think that it’s only fitting to spend a little bit of time talking about the non-living portions of the world. There are countless minerals, fossils, rocks and crystals to talk about and we’re obsessed with them! Join us from the comfort of the Lost Lake Warming Shelter for a hands-on look at the world of geology. We will test rock hardness while learning about the Mohs scale, observe crystals from beneath stereoscopes, break open our own geodes to take home, and learn the basic tools needed to start tumbling rocks of our own all the while exploring the world of geology. We will even be making our own hodgepodge holiday ornaments to take home from igneous rocks!
